This website, although currently being upgraded, offers you information and advice on the community policing partnership in central London at local service delivery level within Paddington, North Westminster, known as the Sector Working Group (SWG). The Group is Police Sector based covering Hyde Park Ward + parts of Lancaster Gate, Bayswater, Little Venice, Maida Vale, Westbourne and Harrow Road Wards. This large area comprises a cross-cultural cosmopolitan community in central London - multi diverse with significant numbers of black and minority ethnic people including a vibrant Muslim & Arabic-speaking population. These communities, alongside representatives of businesses, residents, visitors, tourists, agencies, private & public sector partnerships, Council & Councillors plus police, are all represented on our SWG.
The major role of the SWG is to better engage and reassure the diverse community of Paddington in policing, anti-social behaviour, crime & disorder reduction issues. Also to improve the service and performance of policing at local service delivery level, and in this regard works closely with the Ward Panels recently formed in 2007 as well as other agencies and police partnership.
As a recipient of 'best practice' awards in policing partnership and community relations, this SWG website has been produced to spread this experience, principally for our community leaders and multi-agency partners, and also increasingly to share our energy and efforts with others who regularly visit us in London or wish to know more about our policing partnership in practice. These include constabularies in the UK, law enforcement agencies, local and central government agencies, Councils, community protection and other partners such as hospitals, health authorities, non-government organisations, businesses, overseas police forces, police training and other educational establishments.
It is not enough for the police alone to fight crime. Reducing the risk and fear of crime is a task for the police and the community working together. To achieve the aim of police and community of making London the safest major city in the world we need the people who live here, work here and visit here to do their part in making life difficult for criminals.
The Police and our Safer Neighbourhood team across our part of Paddington believe if you are effectively going to deal with, and ultimately reduce crime and disorder problems which have been identified as important, there must be partnership - a joint commitment between Police AND the community they serve. Residents, businesses and visitors to Paddington are fortunate that their representatives from their multi diverse inner city community achieve this through their involvement with their police/community partnership Sector Working Group (SWG).

Sir Ian Blair QPM took up his post as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service in 2005. On appointment Sir Ian said "One of my aims is to build stronger links with Londoners: working together for a safer London"
