Advice on reporting hate crime
To View in Arabic please click: -
Are you affected by hate because of who you are or what you believe in?
Have you been abused or attacked because of your race, your religion, the colour of your skin or your sexual orientation?
Do you live in fear of physical violence or other abuse at home?
Racist and homophobic behaviours and domestic violence are treated as hate crimes. If you, your neighbours, friends and family, have been affected by hate crime, or you think you have, then let the police and victim support services help you. They will offer you support and give you practical assistance and advice to help you decide what to do next.
The Metropolitan Police Service (The MET) has made it a high priority to tackle hate crimes such as racist crime, domestic violence and homophobic crime. Spearheading this effort are special Community Safety Units (CSUs) (visit our Paddington Police Community Action Team & Community Safety Unit page) located in each of the METs 32 boroughs.
The Paddington Sector Working Group (SWG) for Hyde Park and Bayswater, with its large multi-diverse and cross-cultural community representations, are committed to working closely with the Paddington and Westminster CSUs. In addition, effort is being put into providing information to the community in order victims and potential victims of hate crime can find help and support. Matters of concern are often raised at SWG meetings, in the close networking that follows these meetings, or by encouragement of SWG members to help those affected contact the CSU or speak with Victim Support. (see opposite).
Hate crime hurts everyone. It strikes at the heart of our communities. The police officers and staff of your local police station care about protecting the people who live in our community. They are here to help anyone who has been affected by someone else's prejudice, ignorance or violence. With support from the specially trained staff of your local Community Safety Unit they will do all they can to help you deal with what has happened.
There is a leaflet 'Tackling Hate Together' which is available from Westminster police stations including Paddington and Harrow Road, plus other public places. The leaflet is currently available in 11 languages:
Bengali Chinese English French Hindi Punjab Russian Serbian Somali Turkish Urdu.
